Government AffairsBCA's monitoring of legislation and regulations affecting construction is very important to its members. Effectiveness at the state level is limited as BCA has no presence in Indianapolis, nor does BCA employ any professional lobbyists. However, BCA's effectiveness at the local level and its advocacy for Allen County-based commercial contractors is unmatched. Serving as lobbyists, BCA gets in front of local elected officials, boards, and commissions, carrying petitions, doing letter-writing campaigns in support or against proposed issues; all of these activities make BCA a well-known advocate for its members before local government entities. The Association maintains relationships with select City of Fort Wayne and Allen County government representatives and Northeast Indiana Legislators to keep its fingers on the pulse of local government activities. Many local and state officials are regularly invited to various BCA events, allowing members one-on-one interaction. BCA also sponsors a Meet the Candidates Reception to help members be aware of persons aspiring to elected positions through annual elections. |
